December 13th, 2012Domenico Manno, the uncle of embattled Montreal Mafia boss Vito Rizzuto, is heading home to Montreal after more than 14 years in an American prison for drug trafficking. He’s one of the men convicted of the 1978 hit on Paolo Violi that opened the door for the Rizzutos to rise to power.
Hamilton Hells Angels fighting to get gear back
December 11th, 2012Police scooped up loads of Hells Angels gear in a raid on the bikers’ Hamilton clubhouse. Now the building is a sandwich shop and the gear lies in storage. The bikers hope to use a recent court ruling to get back their club plaques and gear, saying it’s a symbol of brotherhood, not crime.

Vito Rizzuto won’t testify until new year
November 27th, 2012Montreal mob boss Vito Rizzuto won’t take the witness stand at the Charbonneau Commission into construction corruption until January at the earliest. Does he refuse to testify and get hit with contempt? Other options don’t seem too promising. He’s got an active passport but if he leaves the country, what’s left of his empire will dissolve. He has too much pride for that. If he testifies, he loses respect and makes himself vulnerable. Safe bet his lawyer is feeling a tad stressed right now.
